A thoughtful spouse commissioned this necklace with birthstones of the couple's children- aquamarine and moonstone (accompanied by a few silver Bali beads, American turquoise, and silver cube beads). The sterling box clasp is set with a garnet to symbolize the love between mom and dad.
Cairns are stacks of stones used to mark a trail. I first saw them in southern Utah on trails that wound over miles of bare redrock. Cairns keep hikers from getting lost and sometimes you add a stone of your own as you walk by. It can be a huge relief to see them in the distance with their assurance that you haven't wandered off into the desert. In a broader sense cairns remind me that whatever my troubles, others have passed this way before me.
A neat stack of magnesite turquoise heishi beads and glass seed beads dangle on a coil from gunmetal copper wire coils with hinged gunmetal ear wires. Length is 2 1/2 inches from the bottom of the ear wire.
Just wanted to give you a peek behind the scenes of the jewelry making. I've had a few questions about the loops and coils I make and want to clarify that I really do make each and every piece from scratch before I hammer it. I start with plain old wire. So this:
becomes this (I twist the wire into links): or this (I twist the wire into loops and then hammer them):
Every cloud has a silver lining... Forty loops of silver-coated copper wire, each hand bent and hammered by the artist, natural turquoise heishi beads, and glass seed beads are gathered on flexible jewelry wire and attached with a sterling silver lobster claw clasp. Approx 15 1/4"
I am happy to make the jewelry wire longer for you (with the same number of loops), just make a note of the length you prefer when you check out.
Also available in solid sterling silver wire (please allow an extra 5 days turnaround time) $130
Ease into summer with lemon lime, cool blue agave, and sparks of silver. Olive jade chips, turquoise magnesite heishi beads, natural turquoise nuggets, aventurine tube beads, ceramic crow beads, and Czech glass beads shine with silver heishi and cube beads. Hand hammered clasp closes with a sterling lobster claw. Clasp can be worn in the back or in the front as shown. The sample is pictured above. Yours will be made especially for you so bead placement may vary slightly. 16 1/2 inches long.
The hammered wire used in my jewelry is copper coated with brass, silver, or a gunmetal finish (or solid sterling silver wire where noted). Each and every wire loop, coil, and link is hand hammered and made to order just for you. Please allow 8 business days for orders to ship. Rush order? Have Questions? My designs are inspired by ancient wire jewelry designs and variations in form and finish give them a sense of age and mystery. Patina and texture are part of the beauty and character of these hand made pieces and will deepen over time. A gentle rub with a silver polishing cloth should clean up patina that may develop if you prefer your pieces remain shiny.
