Gunmetal Cairn Earrings
$36
Cairns are stacks of stones used to mark a trail. I first saw them in southern Utah on trails that wound over miles of bare redrock. Cairns keep hikers from getting lost and sometimes you add a stone of your own as you walk by. It can be a huge relief to see them in the distance with their assurance that you haven't wandered off into the desert. In a broader sense cairns remind me that whatever my troubles, others have passed this way before me.
A neat stack of magnesite turquoise heishi beads and glass seed beads dangle on a coil from gunmetal copper wire coils with hinged gunmetal ear wires. Length is 2 1/2 inches from the bottom of the ear wire.
